The Badlands Golf Club is a highly rated public Las Vegas golf course that offers the amenities of an expensive, private course. Designed by Johnny Miller and Chi Chi Rodriguez, the course is 27 holes of target, desert-style golf that is surrounded by the scenic Red Rock canyons, deep-flowing arroyos, canyons and natural washes. With this brand of golfing, it was voted the 1997 “Best of Las Vegas” by the Review Journal readers’ poll and was ranked among the 1997 and 1999 “Top Ten Best Courses in Nevada ” by Golf Digest.
The design of Badlands gives both casual and avid golfers the sense of excitement other courses may lack. The greens of the course are large and spacious, and its size is intentionally large so the target cannot be missed. Placing a premium on shot accuracy, each hole is intended to challenge the golfer to hit each hole, but in a way that they are still able to achieve it as well.
There are three distinct nines to choose from at Badlands : the Desperado, Diablo, and Outlaw courses. Desperado/Diablo, the original pairing at the course has a slope rating of 122 from the men's tees and 133 from the back, while a pairing of the Desperado/Outlaw brings those slopes down to 120 and 125 respectively. The Desperado’s eighth hole, a 196-yard par 3, is a tee shot that carries over a deep ravine. Short or right shots will end up in the ravine. Par or birdie is considerably good on this tough hole. The Diablo’s 389-yard, par-4 15th is also a challenge for even the best golfers. A birdie is quite excellent but expect par. The grand finale, Outlaw’s 27th hole, 511-yard, par 5, is everything that is expected from a finishing hole. Any carry less than 240 yards will end up in the water. Play it conservatively and aim for a closing birdie.
The on-site full practicing facilities offers a 16-station driving range and chipping green and putting green to perfect your skills before taking on the main courses. For individualized instruction, guests can take advantage of the Badlands golf school led by Clif Vanetti, a Class A member of the PGA of America.
The full-service clubhouse is accommodating to all of your needs. The restaurant has an extensive breakfast, lunch, tournament, and dinner buffet menu. The golf shop is equipped with golfing equipment and designer brand apparel.
The clubhouse is also home to luxurious event facilities with terraces and panoramic views of the golf course and surrounding mountains. The Badlands staff will be there every step of the way to help you plan your wedding or special event for groups from 16-200 at one of Las Vegas ’ most scenic golf courses.
The Badlands is also an ideal venue to host a golfing tournament. There are a number of customizable tournament packages and amenities available to fit your needs, such as awards, clinics, on-course events, and catering. Included with all packages are use of the Badlands practice facility, range balls, scoring, handling, contests on the course, and amenities such as a yardage book, bag tag, divot repair tool, ball marker, and tees.
