Construction on the Hoover Dam began in 1931 and was completed in 1935. To this day it is considered one of the greatest engineering feats in the world and has left a never-ending legacy of success in America . A total of 94 men lost their lives during the construction of this massive structure and today the Hoover Dam is a National Historic Landmark, Nevada ’s number one sightseeing attraction, the tallest structure of its kind in the world, and one of America ’s Seven Modern Civil Engineering Wonders. It spans Black Canyon and overlooks the Colorado River from more than 700 feet. It is a main source of energy for Nevada , California and Arizona and brought life into the Nevada desert by diverting water into outlying areas.
