Desert Rose Golf Course prides itself on providing old-fashioned golfing and affordable prices. Golfers seeking an alternative to ritzy golf clubs, Desert Rose offers a casual and friendly atmosphere for quality golfing. Although golf carts are available for rental, guests are welcome to walk. The Bermuda greens and fairways are kept slightly longer to make the walk pleasurable.
Located just 15 minutes from Las Vegas Boulevard , the public 18-hole course is built around a wash that runs alongside almost every hole. Although the wash along the front nine is usually dry, the back-nine wash often flows with a 6-foot-wide water stream. Additional hazards include one fairway bunker on hole No. 16 and sand bunkering on most of the greens. Desert Rose was designed by Joe Lee and Dick Wilson. Each player-friendly feature includes an element of challenge to make the golfing experience exciting for players of all skill levels.
Desert Rose recently spent several million dollars upgrading the par-71, 6,511-yard course. Desert Rose’s signature hole is hole No. 2, a 411-yard, slight dogleg-right par 4. The tee shot must carry at least 100 yards to make it across a ditch and reach a fairway whose right side is surrounded by a miniature lake that stretches from the tee-shot landing area to the green. The lake also encloses the area around the green that bottlenecks where the fairway ends. The 9th hole is a 156-yard par-3. Hazards include a large bunker in front of the green and four pot bunkers behind it. No. 16, a 340 yard par-4, tricks players into swinging with the driver. However, a long drive will cause a fairway bunker to come into play while another bunker front left guards the green.
Each year, Desert Rose plays host to the Southern Nevada Golf Association’s Clark County Amateur. Former champions include PGA tour players Robert Gamez and Craig Barlow. Desert Rose was once owned by Jim Colbert, two-time Senior PGA Tour Player of the Year and part-time Las Vegas resident. Desert Rose is now managed by Golf Enterprises, Inc. and is now steadily rebuilding its reputation as a quality golf course. Amenities include a restaurant, snack bar, golfing lessons, and the Nike Learning Center.
