Lawrence Gilman of Genoa was the founder of the Gardnerville, when, in 1879, he moved his Kent House residence from Genoa to small tract of land on the East side of the Carson River. The land has previously belonged to homesteader John Gardner and Gilman decided to honor Gardner by giving the new town his name.
Gardnerville is centrally located in the Carson Valley which is part of the thriving Northern Nevada area. This area is known to be one of the most lush and scenic areas around and Gardnerville is conveniently placed, near Reno and Tahoe River.
