It's only fitting that a casino named the Golden Nugget should display a large example of its namesake…and the downtown Las Vegas casino and resort does not disappoint. Their nugget, the "Hand of Faith," is the largest on public display in the world. Named for it's hand-like shape, the nugget weighs 875 troy ounces (approximately 61 lbs, 11 oz.). It was discovered in Wedderburn Australia in 1980 using a metal detector. It was just six inches beneath the surface. The huge gold piece was purchased by the casino in 1981.
Today, the "Hand of Faith," sits proudly in the lobby of the Golden Nugget. It is on view 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is free to the public
