Las Vegas is best known as “The City of Lights” and is the largest city in Nevada . Spaniards named the area Las Vegas , meaning “The Meadows” in Spanish while visiting the area on their way west. It was so named because of springs in some of the lower elevation areas which produced large grass fields that dotted the desert land.

In 1931 gambling was legalized in the area. A decade later developers flocked to this desert oasis and began construction on hotels and casinos. The creation of the Hoover Dam in the mid 1930’s brought more water and power to the area and soon the city of Las Vegas came alive with bustling tourism and twinkling lights.

The greater Las Vegas area features a desert climate. This results in plenty of heat with very little rainfall. Summer highs reach to more than 105 degrees Fahrenheit and the dry valley ground is hard and non-absorbent which causes major flooding when heavy rains do hit the area. The Las Vegas Valley is situated in a basin created by the towering Spring Mountains . The rocky peaks of these mountains are covered with trees and various types of rock and are home to wild horses, burros, bighorn sheep and elk. Throughout the area you will find amazing natural formations including canyons, rock formations, and more.

On the Horseback with Breakfast or Lunch tour you’ll saddle up and head north into a secluded canyon. Along the trail you’ll follow a natural wash and may even catch a glimpse of the local wildlife wandering the landscape. This area is filled with beautiful Joshua trees and other plants including cactus and yucca. The relaxing ride will put you in touch with nature like never before and take you back to a simpler time and much different way of life.

During the ride you’ll get a truly unique view of the city spread out across the floor of the valley surrounded by the magnificent Spring Mountains . On the Breakfast ride your guide will prepare breakfast over an open campfire along the trail in the Box Canyon . If you’ve opted for the lunch tour, you’ll travel back to the ranch for a delicious meal after the ride.

For a break from the hustle and bustle of the city when visiting Las Vegas this is the best way to get it. Even though you’re only a few minutes from the city, you’ll feel like you’re a world and many years away from everything. It’s a wonderful experience that shouldn’t be missed.
