Lava Butte is, in a way, one of Nevada ’s mysteries. The name would suggest that this landmark is an extinct volcano. However, it is not a volcano. What is actually is, is still unknown. Popular theories place it as a volcanic dome or plug while others believe it to be leftovers from a long ago lava flow. Whatever its origins, Lava Butte is definitely a sight to see when in the Las Vegas area. The butte is made up of rocks which date back more than 13 million years.
