The Las Vegas Pauite Golf Resort is home to three Pete Dye-designed championship courses, Snow Mountain, Sun Mountain, and Wolf. Located northwest of the Las Vegas Strip at the base of the striking Spring Mountains , there are no housing developments or traffic noises to interfere with the serene and relaxing golf outing that the resort has to offer visitors. As a matter of fact, the only sounds that you will hear come from the desert birds that live in the mirage of colorful desert flowers and plants that surround each isolated hole. The resort not only provides a challenging game of golf but also beautiful desert scenery to enhance your experience. Regardless of which course you decide to play at, you will notice ducks wandering in the glistening ponds, bobcats and coyotes sauntering through the valley, and rabbits and chipmunks hopping in the brush. In addition, the resort provides an award-winning, expansive clubhouse to cater to all of your needs off the course. The inviting 50,000 square foot clubhouse includes a 3,800 square foot restaurant and lounge featuring a fireplace area and a separate tobacco room as well as large banquet rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook Snow Mountain ’s 18 th green and the picturesque mountains. In 2004, VegasGolfer recognized the resort for providing the “Best Overall Experience.”
In 1995, Snow Mountain became the first of the three courses to open. The same year, Golf Digest named the course as the “Number One Public Access Course in Nevada .” The 7,146 yard par-72 layout features wide rye grass fairways, undulating rough, glistening lakes, and a variety of bunkers. Each hole is separated by natural areas. The signature hole is no. 18. The 445 yard par-4 dogleg left is protected by water from tee to green. Although there’s a fair landing area for the tee shot, bunkers right will lead to a long second shot to the green guarded by a bunker right and water left. In 2006, the course was once again acknowledged by Golf Digest by receiving a 4 ½ star rating out a possible five.
There are two practice facilities for players to enhance their game. Each facility features a driving range, practice putting green, and pitching chipping area. PGA professionals are also on hand to offer private lessons. The Head Professional Greg Wickenseimer is available for 30 minute lessons at $50 and one hour lessons at $95. Or, practice with First Assistant Mike Fabian for 30 minutes at $40 or an hour at $75.
