Rio Secco Golf Club is situated amongst the foothills of the Black Mountain Range. The 18-hole, championship course was designed and built in 1997 by renowned golf course architect Rees Jones. That same year, Golf Digest and Golf Magazine voted it among the top ten new courses. The accolades have continued to flow in. In 2004, Golf Digest voted it one of “America’s 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses” while the Las Vegas PGA Membership poll voted it as the “#1 public access course in Nevada.” The golf club was primarily built for guests of the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino which is located just 12 minutes away. Although guests from other hotels are more than welcome to visit the club, guests can take advantage of the affordable “stay and play” packages by staying at the Rio Hotel & Casino.
The breathtaking scenery and blend of challenge and playability has made Rio Secco one of Vegas’ most desired places to golf. The desert-styled course plays 7,332 yards and holes are strategically built around desert plateaus, wide desert washes, and steep canyons. The course features Bermuda grass tees and fairways and Crenshaw bentgrass greens. Four sets of tees are made playable for any caliber of player. Many of the tees are elevated which makes the holes play shorter than they actually appear on the scorecard. Six play on top of plateaus, six through canyons, and six on level terrain. The course's No. 1 handicap is the 478 yard par-4 second hole. The hole plays from tee boxes more than 60 feet above the fairway. Bunkers and waste areas punish errant tee shots and second shots are hit into an undulating green. VegasGolfer magazine named it the “best golf hole” in 2002. One of Rio Secco’s signature holes is the par-4, 417 yard 7th. The tee rises almost 50 feet above the fairway. The green is protected by a 40 foot vertical caliche wall and sand bunkers left-front, right, and behind. Rio Secco is also the host venue for the 2002-2007 Tiger Jam Celebrity Golf Outing. Coincidentally, Tiger Woods currently holds the course record of 64. Tee times are every 10 minutes. Individual golf reservations are taken 90 days in advance.
