White Tigers at the Mirage

Las Vegas Attractions: White Tigers at the Mirage

Entertainers, Siegfried and Roy have made it their life's work to prevent the beautiful and elegant white tigers from becoming extinct. To this end, they have raised a number of the species and have built a luxurious Habitat to house them. Two of these sleek creatures are on display at the Mirage Las Vegas during the day and early evening. Visitors can stroll past the glass-fronted enclosure that boasts such amenities as a swimming pool, palm trees, and a simulated mountain terrain with waterfalls and streams. The bright white interior of the Habitat allows the tigers to blend in with their surroundings and not feel threatened.

White tigers, unlike their more common black and orange cousins, are white with black stripes and have pink paws and blue eyes. The two tigers on display are the offspring of a matched pair of white tigers bequeathed to the United State in 1958 by the Maharaja of Rewa, a former princely province (and setting for Kipling's "Jungle Book") in what is now central India.

White Tigers at the Mirage

The attraction, located just off of the Mirage's main entrance, is open every day and is free to the public. The tigers are rotated in and out of the exhibit, but at least one tiger is visible at all times.
