Course Review:

Wildhorse Golf Club is a championship, par 70 layout and regarded as one of the most difficult courses in Southern Nevada. The course was originally built in 1959 as the Paradise Valley Country Club to become one of the first golf courses in Southern Nevada. As a former PGA stop, the club played host to the Sahara Invitational in the 1960’s and 70’s. The club was known as different names throughout the years before settling on the Wildhorse Golf Club in 1994. It was redesigned in 2004 by golf course architects Brian Curley and Lee Schmidt. Today, the award-winning facility is municipally owned by the city of Henderson and offers an enjoyable and affordable round of golf to players of all skill levels.

Several holes are guarded by glistening lakes as well as proud trees and undulating greens. Vegas Golfer Magazine named the 9 th hole, a par 4 measuring 398 yards as the toughest hole in the Vegas area. Length and placement off the tee is crucial. Too short, and golfers face a long-iron or wood second shot into a green guarded by a second lake. Too long, and sand comes into play. However, the challenge to conquer the most-talked about hole in Vegas keeps locals coming back.

The well-equipped golf shop offers an abundance of quality merchandise and convenient services. They carry the latest clubs from Ping, Callaway, Bridgestone, Cobra, Titleist, and Cleveland. Clothing and footwear from Ashworth, Foot-Joy, Antigua, Tehama, Tartan, and Callaway are also available. Visitors can bring in their shoes for a new set of soft spikes that also includes a complimentary shine. Wildhorse has recently partnered with the PGA to help shoppers earn merchandise credit for their old golf clubs. The shop can handle all repairs and adjustments such as regripping, reshafting, and custom fitting while you wait. In addition, they can assist with unique requests, prizes for golf outings, and gift ideas. They can also special order logo items with quick delivery and reasonable prices.

Wildhorse’s top notch practice center features an expansive natural turf practice range, putting green, chipping and pitching green, along with a sand bunker.  Open from sunrise to sunset, the center is ideal for improving all aspects of players’ game. Visitors can practice all of their shots, from full shots, lobs and chips, pitch and runs, and three footers.

“Improving your golf game is our business” is the motto of Wildhorse Golf Academy. Owned and operated by resident golf professionals Tony Lawson and Kerri Clark, the academy offers quality and golf instruction to students of all ages and abilities. The academy is also a partner of the First Tee Program of Southern Nevada.

Wildhorse’s facility and grand ballroom can accommodate 20 to 250 guests for weddings, fundraising and charity events, family and private affairs, corporate meetings and events, and golf tournaments. Features include an adjoining private balcony and floor to ceiling windows that overlook the lush golf course and surrounding mountains. In addition, the experienced and professional staff will be on hand to assist with all of the details, no matter how miniscule.
