Situated in the downtown district of Boulder City, the Hoover Dam Museum presents the history of its namesake. The exhibits focus on the engineering and natural components of this massive dam that was built during the Great Depression. After browsing the galleries, you'll be inspired to actually visit the Hoover Dam. This magnificent infrastructure is located approximately 10 miles away from the city. A scenic drive along the Great Basin Highway connects the dam with the downtown area. Various guided tours of the dam and its power plant are available throughout the year. Enormous generators, water pumps and other mechanical workings will be clearly visible during the tours. Located near the visitor's centre, the outdoor observation deck offers panoramic views of the Hoover Dam and Colorado River. Some notable features of the dam include the Winged Figures of the Republic, Old Exhibit Building, Nevada Intake Towers and Nevada Spillways. The Mike O'Callaghan Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge Plaza also has observation areas that overlook the dam and the stunning landscape. Situated in an industrial section of the city, the Nevada Southern Railroad Museum covers the rich history of rail transportation in the Las Vegas area. This attraction has a large collection of vintage locomotives that primarily handled freight operations. The museum highlights the role that the region has played as a gateway into the West Coast, including California. Located just steps away from the railroad museum, Tom Devlin's Monster Museum preserves the history of makeup and special effects in the movie industry. Visitors will discover the secrets behind the grotesque appearances of characters in horror and sci-fi films. The museum also sells spooky masks, costumes and other accessories that will surely come in handy for Halloween. Boulder City is also home to the Lake Mead National Recreation Area Headquarters. This venue provides official information and other resources on Lake Mead and the surrounding area. You could pick up detailed maps that mark trails, boating ramps, restrooms, picnic areas, camping spots and other points of interest. Location and Transportation

Nested between mountains and canyons, Boulder City is located about 25 miles southeast of Las Vegas and 10 miles south of Henderson. Considered one of the busiest highways in the region, Interstate 515 connects all of these communities. Reserved primarily for general aviation, the Boulder City Municipal Airport is located just outside of the charming downtown area. This airport is also the departure point for various helicopter tours and other aerial adventures by small aircraft. The much larger and busier McCarran International Airport is only a short drive away from this scenic city. Many resorts and hotels on the Las Vegas Strip provide private transportation to this popular destination.
