In a city where all of the world’s famous landmarks are concentrated into one single location, the replica of Paris’ trademark Eiffel Tower stands proud and tall in the center of Las Vegas. Situated on Las Vegas Boulevard, this construction is about half the size (540 feet) of the original Eiffel Tower and consists of about 5,000 tons of welded steel. Visitors to the city can thus enjoy an authentic French experience, all the while taking in the breathtaking views of the Nevada desert and the City that Never Sleeps.
The Eiffel Tower in Las Vegas is part of the Paris Las Vegas Hotel & Casino complex and was built in 1999. It was first meant to be a full scale version of the original tower, however authorities soon requested its designers to go for a more modest version after it was found that the airport was too close and would thus endanger aircraft in the area. Visitors can access this marvelous creation via an escalator, which takes them to a bridge that covers the casino itself. The bridge is a perfect place to get in some souvenir photographs to take home.
Visitors to the tower then get a chance to ride up the 50 story building in a special elevator to the observation deck. On the way up, the history of the original tower in Paris is recounted by the friendly and knowledgeable attendant, adding to the charm and infusing another dose of authenticity into the entire experience.
The observation deck – an impressive 460 feet from ground level – is one of the most fantastic spots to get a panoramic view of the city of Las Vegas. In whichever direction one turns, there is another beautiful city landmark just waiting to be discovered. Visitors can trace the whole of Las Vegas Boulevard as it winds its way through the city in the North, while in the east, they can see the gorgeous mountain range just outside Vegas. The southern view looks out onto several top Vegas hotels, including the Luxor and Mandalay Bay, and finally the eastern side provides one of the best positions to take in the Bellagio fountain show. There are openings and telescopes scattered all across the observation deck for visitors to take in unobstructed and breathtaking views of the city and photograph away to their hearts’ content.
The observation deck is also one of the most romantic spots in the city and visitors who are ready to pop the question can arrange for a semi private area of the tower to be at their disposal (for a fee) to get down on their knees and propose just as it should be done! The evening to remember can be rounded off by an intimate tete-a-tete dinner for two at the famous 11th floor Eiffel Tower restaurant, although it is strongly recommended to book ahead.
The Las Vegas Eiffel Tower is open every day from 9.30 am to past midnight, weather permitting and is one of the most popular sightseeing choices for visitors to the city. Tickets are available at the Paris Las Vegas box office.
