Ellerbe Becket claimed the status of the chief architectural firm for the design and development of Sam Boyd Stadium. Upon opening in late 1971, the Las Vegas Stadium had a seating capacity of 15,000. Between the late 1970s and 1990s, the seating capacity has been increased as part of renovations and the venue name changed to Las Vegas Silver Bowl. In 1984, the venue was renamed in honour of Sam Boyd, one of the most prominent figures in the Las Vegas casino and real estate industries of the 20th century.

Football and Other Events

Sam Boyd Stadium has been the home ground of the UNLV Rebels football team since opening its doors to the public. Throughout the years, this team has generated a strong fan base throughout the Las Vegas metropolitan area. The Rebels compete in the Mountain West Conference, which has Division I status in the NCAA. After compiling a 7-5 record in the regular 1994 season, the team captured the conference championship. That season remains one of the most successful seasons in the school's football program. In addition to hosting the home games of the Rebels, Sam Boyd Stadium hosts the Las Vegas Bowl. This post-season game has been played at the stadium since 1992. Brigham Young University, the University of Utah and Boise State University are some of the most dominant teams in the bowl's history. Facilities and Amenities

The venue has more than 35,000 fixed seats, with some additional temporary seating available on the turf. More than a dozen food vendors serve this football stadium. From hot dogs and fries to ice cream and pizza, you'll find a large variety of classic American fare at the kiosks throughout the concourses. Eight full-service bars are also set up throughout this stadium. If you're looking for a casual dining experience, head to the Cox Cafe near the Cox Pavilion. Visiting Sam Boyd Stadium

The stadium is located on Russell Road in a residential district of Whitney, Nevada. Broadbent Boulevard, which becomes Tropicana Avenue, directly links the Las Vegas Strip with this stadium. More than 10,000 on-site parking spaces are available for visitors. However, drivers are discouraged from parking their vehicles on the quiet residential streets that are located just west of Broadbent Boulevard. If the stadium's lot if full, you can find some free parking at the nearby Silver Bowl Park. Public transit at this football venue is limited, but hotels on the Las Vegas Strip might provide hired shuttles and other private transportation services. The drive from the Strip to this stadium normally takes 10 minutes. Interstate 11 carries traffic between Downtown Las Vegas and this sports complex.
